1st Annual Fall Athletic Banquet of Champions Banquet presented by Well Child

 

The Shelby County Interscholastic Athletic Association (SCIAA) presents the 1st Annual Fall Athletic Banquet of Champions on Friday, December 20, 2013, 6pm.

This is an awards recognition banquet for all SCS City, Sectional and State Championship Teams as well as Top Academic Student-Athletes from each school. Marshall Faulk, NFL Hall of Famer, will be the keynote speaker.  An autograph session will be available. Sponsorship packages and individual tickets are available for purchase. Lester Middle School to be Highlighted

Lester Middle School
Lester Lions excel in all facets of athletics and have an innate will to win.  The football team has played its way into a State Championship.   The reigning state championship basketball team for the last two years is preparing for its national television special debut.
For the past two years ESPN has been following our boys’ basketball team and coaching staff to highlight the amazing things that our program is accomplishing.  Coach Desmond Merriweather  and NBA superstar Penny Hardawayhave coached our boys into three city and two state championship victories.
This segment on ESPN will highlight all of the work they do on and off the court to help our boys become champions in the game of basketball and more importantly life. It will air on November 5th, 2013 on ESPN ’s “E-60” at 6:00pm.  The Lester faculty and staff will view a special screening of the segment in support of everything that our boys have accomplished.  We are a proud and committed staff to the Binghampton community.

The SCIAA would like to congratulate the White Station High School JV Football City Champions!  On October 21st they defeated Mitchell High School with a score of 18-0.  The Most Out Standing Player was Demetrius Hicks of White Station High School.

Carver High School Softball Player Signs with Southwest

Congratulations to Courtney Foster for signing her national letter of intent with Southwest Tennessee Community College. As a catcher for the  Lady Cobras Softball team, Courtney batted .629, scored ten home runs,  twenty-five runs , seventeen RBIs and  stole seventeen bases for the 2012-2013 season.  In addition, Courtney Foster is a four-time all-district and Commercial Appeal selection.   Courtney Foster finished her high school softball season as a MIAA district 16AA and TSSAA Region 8AA champion.

NFL Hall of Famer to Speak with Student-Athletes

Irvin will speak with students about the importance of academics and dedication to their respective sports on Thursday, May 2, 2013, 4 p.m. at Whitehaven High School (4851 Elvis Presley Blvd. Memphis, TN 38116). The NFL High School Player Development camp will include fundamental skill instruction, 7-on-7 competitions and character development.

MIAA High School Baseball Takes Over Auto Zone Park

The Memphis Interscholastic Athletic Association hosted the High School Baseball City Championship at Auto Zone Park.  On April 25th, hundreds of students, parents and administrators filled the  ballpark to enjoy the action packed match ups.This was the first year that the MIAA collaborated with the Memphis Redbirds and Auto Zone Park to host this successful and exciting event.Congratulations to all the teams that played and special congratulations to the City Championship winners: Booker T. Washington High School, Fairley High School and Central High School.

Memphis Interscholastic Athletic Association Host High School Baseball Pitchers’ Clinic

On February 28, 2013, the Memphis Interscholastic Athletic Association hosted their first High School Baseball Pitchers’ Clinic. With the assistance of local colleges and universities, twenty-six Student-Athletes learned drills that would improve their game fundamentally and competitively.  Christian Brother’s University generously opened their facilities to the high school pitchers, giving them a glimpse of their possible athletic futures.  The participating Baseball programs were Christian Brother’s University, Lemoyne-Owen College, and the University of Memphis. Thanks to all the Participants and Coaches for making this clinic a success.

2012 Titans High School Football Coach of the Year

Rodney Saulsberry, head football coach of Whitehaven High School has been named the 2012 Titans High School Football Coach of the Year.  Through the Titans Foundation, team owner K.S. “Bud” Adams, Jr. will make a $2,000 contribution to the Whitehaven High School football program in Coach Saulsberry’s honor.  Coach Saulsberry will be recognized prior to the Titans-Jaguars game on Dec. 30th, 2012.

The criteria for selection include the coach’s impact on his team, school and community.  The program is designed to recognize high school coaches who transform, through their hard work and dedication, student-athletes into the best possible football players and citizens in their community.
