2018 High School Volleyball Championship

The 2018 SCIAA Volleyball season wrapped up last night with 2 new champions and 1 returning champion. The night started with the AAA powerhouses Germantown and White Station. These two teams meet up every year and its still exciting to watch these two very skilled teams compete. Although it only went 3 sets, Germantown fought back hard in the first set and stayed close for the remaining two sets but they just couldn’t get passed White Station. Coach Thomas went on to celebrate another championship as head coach of the Spartans. The game MVP was Selenne Zarate.

In the 2nd game of the night the undefeated Middle College took on the undefeated East Mustangs. Middle College won the first set and East tied it up by winning the 2nd set. There were some long rallies as both teams played hard to keep the game in reach. East just nudged the 3rd set away from Middle College winning 28-26. In the 4th and final set East capitalized on a couple mistakes made by Middle College and won 25-21. For Coach Hunt its been some time since East was a championship contender but her team led by game MVP Jayla Webb were very deserving after beating a talented Middle College team.

The 3rd and final game of the night featured 2 new contenders in the AA division. The Sheffield Knights took on the undefeated Kirby Cougars. Kirby easily won the first set rather quickly but Sheffield regrouped and kept the final two sets rather close. It wasn’t enough to break Kirby’s streak, having already met twice this season Sheffield struck out in a 3rd loss. The Cougars were led by the athleticism of game MVP Alva Lewis.

Congratulations to all of the teams that made it and especially Coach Thomas of White Station, Coach Hunt of East and Coach Smith of Kirby for coaching their teams to a victorious season!
