2018 SCIAA Middle School Basketball Area Champions

The Middle School Area Championships were awesome. If you missed it then you missed a dandy. There were a few newcomers this year. In the Small School Division, Bellevue girls and boys continued their usual dominance. The newcomer in  Area 1 boys was Ida B. Wells with their first appearance in the Area Small championship game. In Area 2 Small the Lester Prep Lions girls and boys continued to lead the way which was reminiscent of their regular season. Area 3 Small Schools was exciting to watch. Barret’s Chapel girls were crowned champions but their opponent, Raleigh-Egypt Middle School, hadn’t been to an Area Championship in over 15 years. The boy’s champions, Dexter Patriots, battled a tough Kingsbury team to secure the title. In the Large Division, Area 1 girls Kate Bond defeated Snowden in the championship game. On the boys’ side, Snowden battled Cordova in their ongoing feud to be crowned champions for the boys. Colonial girls continued their streak and are Area 2 champions. On the boys side Havenview has battled their neighborhood rival A. Maceo Walker Middle and won the championship game in emphatic fashion.  A. Maceo Walker, a newcomer to the Large Division, made it to the championship game in their very first year. Hickory Ridge Middle girls team had an awesome regular season and continued the pace during the Area 3 championship tourney. Hickory Ridge beat their formidable opponent, the Highland Oaks Hawks, for the championship title.  Germantown vs Ridgeway, this year was one for the record books. Both teams split games during the regular season but Germantown edged them out to become #1 in regular season. But for the Championship, Ridgeway pulled off the win to become Area 3 Large champions. Special thanks to Zandra Hall (Cummings MS), Myesha James (Havenview MS), Julius Williams (JP Freeman), Greg Miller Kate Bond), Charles Jones (Barret’s Chapel), Jarvis Stephens (Ridgeway MS), and their cohorts for their hard-work in making the Area tourney’s special and memorable. If you missed this years games I’ve got good news; next season is coming soon.

Don’t forget to come and support these teams in the TMSAA Sectional tournament Jan.26- Feb.5.
