The Memphis Interscholastic Athletic Association held a Powerlifting In-Service August 25,2012 for Coaches previously involved with the Powerlifting program as well as Coaches that were interested in building a team . Ken Robinson, Assigning Agent for the MIAA/MCS Powerlifting program, discussed various strength training and lifting techniques. After the discussion, Coaches put their muscles to the test, partnered up and executed the techniques explained and demonstrated during the In-service.
The Powerlifting Program is a vastly growing Sport offered by the MIAA. Last year, over ninety high school Student Athletes participated in the MIAA Powerlifting City Championship. The University of Memphis Football Department opened their state of the art facilities to the MIAA, so that Student Athletes could compete in a more accommodating space. Additionally, the Memphis Police Department’s Community Outreach Program (C.O.P.) volunteered to assist with spotting and changing weights.
Again, Congratulations to Cordova High School for their MIAA Powerlifting City Championship win in April, 2012.
